Mariangela Sicilia - soprano
Operalia Prize winner Mariangela Sicilia is one of the most exciting young sopranos to have come out of Italy in the last few years; she has been seen, in the past seasons, in Massenet's Cléopâtre (Charmionand) at the Salzburg Festival under the baton of Vladimir Fedoseyev; Il Viaggio a Reims, La Donna del Lago (Alberto Zedda conducting) and L'Italiana in Algeri (Davide Livermore directing) at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro; Cilea's L'Arlesiana directed by Rosetta Cucchi at the Wexford Festival Opera, David Angus conducting and at the Teatro Pergolesi in Jesi, Francesco Cilluffo conducting; Orfeo ed Euridice in New York; Rigoletto (Gilda) at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari (c. Rizzari; d. Kief). Mariangela Sicilia has recently performed Pergolesi's Stabat Mater in Ravenna and Jerusalem, broadcast live by the Italian National Television (Rai tre); L’Elisir d'Amore in Madrid (c.Piollet; d. Michieletto) and in Monte Carlo; La Pietra del Paragone at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, J.C.Spinosi conducting; Petite Messe Solennelle in Saint-Etienne under Alberto Zedda and in the World Premiere of Battistelli’s Il Medico dei Pazzi in Nancy; Guillaume Tell at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Michele Mariotti conducting and Graham Vick directing; La Bohème (Musetta) Mark Elder conducting and Jonathan Miller directing. Ms. Sicilia is the recipient of several prizes in international vocal competitions, winning the 2009 X International “Ruggero Leoncavallo” Competition in Montalto Uffugo, the first prize and title role of Adina in Tito Schipa Competition in Lecce (2012) and a special prize in the “F. Viñas” Competition in Barcellona (2012).
Future plans include L’Elisir d'Amore in Brussels; La Scala di Seta and Mozart’s Requiem at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, Mariotti conducting and Michieletto directing; Turandot (Liù) in Montpellier; Orphée et Eurydice and La Bohème at Teatro Massimo in Palermo. Ms Sicilia will return to the Opéra de Paris singing in Adriana Lecouvreur under the baton of Daniel Oren and directed by David Mc Vicar and at the Concertgebouw singing the Petite Messe Solennelle.
